The two species of beaver, Castor canadensis and Castor fiber, gravitate towards wet environments such as rivers and lakes. The former occupies large stretches of North America, whereas the latter is indigenous to parts of Europe and Asia. Beavers habituate well to their environments and take very active roles in tailoring them to their needs with their constructive capabilities. Beavers therefore tend to be very successful in these environments if the requisite components are present. Beavers tend to be highly concerned with the conditions of their lodges, favoring the security deeper entrenched pond homes grant, and they spend large stretches of time performing maintenance to achieve this. This tendency towards action and adaptive capabilities allows beavers to thrive in a multitude of surroundings; if water and trees are both available in sufficient enough quantities, they can successfully commandeer breadths of different environments.
